pic_selina_homeSheikha Selina Begum Ali

Sheikha Selina graduated with a Bachelors degree (BEd) in Primary Education, CELTA and PTLLS from London. She also completed a Diploma in Arabic Language and a Bachelors degree (BA) in Usul-Ad-Din and Usul-al-Fiqh in Arabic medium from the European Institute of Islamic Sciences in France. While studying Shariah she also completed an intensive Tajwid course on Ibn al-Jazari, a classical Tajwid text, and studied Tajwid extensively under a number of male and female Tajwid scholars. In particular, Sheikh Said Bouhdifi who obtained Ijazah for 10 recitations (Qira’at) from Sheikh Ayman Suaid and from Sheikh Abdul Munim As-Shalati. She also studied under Sheikh Farid and Sheikha Reihab (who both obtained Ijazah in 10 Qira’at from Sheikh Ayman), as well as Sheikh Mabruk Sheikha Muna and Kawsar (who both obtained Ijazah from Sheikh Ayman).

Sheikha Selina had been teaching Tajwid, Aqidah, Fiqh and other Islamic Sciences in the UK in various courses. In particular, she has taught in the Tartil courses (Beautifying Recitation), Itqan courses (Perfecting Recitation), Nafar courses (Understanding Islam) and in Knowledgeseekers courses (Islamic Sciences) for the last 7 years. She also teaches at the Beacon Institute, of which, she is one of the founding directors.

She is currently teaching the Arabic for Life Long Learning Programme and Modern Foreign Language (MFL) Programme for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. She also delivers talks on education and on other various Islamic issues at university campuses, Mosques and Islamic Centres. She is married with 3 children.

Sheikh Fahim graduated with an MA (in Teaching and Learning) and a Bachelors degree (BA Hons) in Business Studies and Marketing from London. He also completed a Diploma in Arabic and a Bachelors degree (BA) in Usul-Ad-Din and Usul-al-Fiqh in Arabic medium from the European Institute of Islamic Sciences in France. While studying Shariah, he also completed an intensive Tajwid course on Ibn al-Jazari, a classical Tajwid text, and studied Tajwid extensively under a number of Tajwid scholars. He is currently working for the Muslim Mediation Service as a Case Worker and a Lead Mediator and also works for the HM Prison Service as an Imam and leads Juma’h prayer at Grendon and Springhill Prisons. He also delivers talks on various Islamic issues at
university campuses, Mosques and Islamic Centres. He is married with 3 children.

Monjur Miah

Monjur graduated with a BSc in Physics and a Diploma in Computer Science. Currently, he is working full time in IT.

Monjur became interested in recitation of the Quran at university while admiring the reading of those who could recite beautifully. His first proper Tajweed course was with Ustadh Fahim, where he discovered Tajweed isn’t foremost about developing a nice voice, but it is about reading according to the required rules. He is currently continuing his studies with the Beacon Institute aiming to develop a good foundation, and at the same time assists teaching at the Beacon Institute.

Kamrul Islam

Kamrul graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry. He has been working in clinical pharmacology (Phase I studies) for over 3 years. Currently, he is working as a researcher on respiratory research, specifically Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma and Tuberculosis (TB). He has been studying Tajweed at the Beacon Institute for quite some time. He is married with 3 children.

Dr Sabina Chowdhury

Dr Sabina graduated from Queen Mary University with a BSc in Biomedical Science and MBBS from Barts and The London school of Medicine and Dentistry. She is currently a GP Trainee in the London Deanery. She is involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors and is an active member of London Mediconcern. She continues to seek Islamic knowledge in Tajweed, Aqidah and Fiqh through Beacon Institute and other similar Islamic Institutes.

Khaleda Maleque

Khaleda graduated with a BA in Sociology & Social Policy from London. Currently, she is working in a community development organisation called Social Action for Health as a Project Manager. She is also studying Tajweed & Arabic language, and assisting in teaching Tajweed at the Beacon Institute. She has been involved in Dawah work since 1996 and at the moment runs a weekly Islamic study circle.
